Breast reduction in Vienna
Breast reduction surgery
Mammaplasty, also known as breast reduction surgery, is a surgical procedure that aims to reduce the size and shape of the breasts.
Many women suffer from overly large breasts. In my experience, back pain, bra straps cutting in, problems with clothing and during sport are the reasons why women have their breasts reduced.
Medical reasons for a breast reduction
- Back pain: Many women with larger breasts complain of chronic back pain as the extra weight puts strain on the spine.
- Neck pain and shoulder complaints: Straining the shoulder blades can lead to persistent pain and tension.
- Skin problems: Skin folds can form under the breasts where sweat accumulates, which can lead to skin irritation and infections.
In most cases, a breast reduction is combined with a breast lift. A breast reduction is an option:
Breast reduction - What you should know!
How permanent is a breast reduction?
This depends on many factors. The results of a breast reduction last for years to decades with good and very good results. It also depends on how regularly you wear a bra, whether your skin is exposed to the sun a lot and other factors. After pregnancies or with years going by in some cases breast tissue re-grows and some patients have to undergo a subsequent procedure, usually 20 – 30 years later. Unfortunately, there is no simple answer!
What are the risks of a breast reduction?
Patient safety is my top priority! However, every surgical procedure involves certain risks. The use of modern techniques and methods can significantly reduce the risk. Post-operative bleeding or wound healing disorders may occur after an operation. Overall, however, these complications are rare. I will answer all your questions in a personal meeting.
Is breastfeeding still possible after a breast reduction?
It is not possible to predict whether or not breastfeeding will be possible after a breast lift or breast reduction. On the one hand, it depends on the technology used, and on the other on individual factors. About 50% of women retain the ability to breastfeed. It is important to note that approximately 30% of non-operated women CANNOT breastfeed.
When are sports and saunas be resumed after breast reduction?
That also depends a little on the extent of the change. However, you should always allow yourself a break of three to six weeks. After that, you should always wear a sports bra when exercising. Sports such as running are particularly stressful for the breast. Wait three months before going to the sauna.
What cup size can I expect after a breast reduction?
Unfortunately, it is not possible or only possible with difficulty to operate on a specific cup size. The cup size also says relatively little about the actual volume of an individual woman’s breasts. The aim is to achieve a harmonious overall appearance in which the breast blends well and harmoniously into your body image. In most cases, this is roughly a C-cup.
How do I prepare for a breast reduction?
Preparation for the operation begins after you have decided to have the procedure.
Before a breast reduction, we will discuss the following points together in order to positively influence the success in advance and avoid risks:
- General state of health and any illnesses
- The influence of nicotine on the wound healing process. If possible, avoid smoking for 3 weeks before and after surgery.
- The importance of avoiding aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs, as these greatly impair blood clotting.
- There must be no acute or serious chronic illnesses that speak against surgery.
- Chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure or diabetes must be well controlled with medication.
- If you are going home on the same day as the operation, arrange transportation home in advance and ensure that someone is with you for at least the first night after surgery.
- Prepare everything you will need after the operation at home and put the most important things within easy reach so that you don’t have to stretch too much after the operation and can devote yourself to your recovery.
- Regardless of the type of procedure, drinking enough water before and after the procedure is essential for recovery.
How much does a breast reduction cost?
The cost of a breast reduction is € 5,990.
This is a demanding operation that requires a lot of experience and a certain amount of operating time if it is performed to a high standard. The price naturally includes all additional costs, including the special bra. There are no hidden costs!
Prices valid from 01.01.2024
Does health insurance cover the costs of a breast reduction?
Health insurance companies sometimes cover the costs of breast reduction surgery. However, certain conditions must be met for this. The body weight must be relatively low and the breast volume to be surgically removed relatively high. In individual cases, a visit to the head physician is necessary. The costs of a breast lift are almost never or extremely rarely covered by health insurance.
