Reasons for a tummy tuck

Abdominoplasty after weight loss or pregnancy

A flat stomach and beautifully contoured hips are an aesthetic ideal that many women and men strive for. A flat stomach indicates a healthy, active lifestyle and contributes to satisfaction and self-confidence in many people.

Problems caused by skin laxity or weak abdominal muscels

Skin laxity or weak abdominal muscels can cause psychological as well as health problems: Redness and inflammation but also heavy sweating are among them.

Many people are uncomfortable or even embarrassed by the appearance of their belly. Visits to outdoor swimming pools or saunas are often avoided and the purchase of clothing is also problematic.

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is an option:

If you suffer from a sagging abdominal wall. After massive weight loss, your abdominal wall does not regenerate despite exercise and a healthy diet.

You suffer from weak connective tissue and therefore a sagging abdominal wall.

Your body mass index - the ratio between height and weight - should be below 28, otherwise there is an increased risk of surgery.

Prerequisites for a tummy tuck

One of the prerequisites is a constant body weight, as strong weight fluctuations do not lead to sustainable results. A tummy tuck is NOT suitable for losing weight. This is a body contouring tightening operation that is not suitable for weight loss.

Causes of a sagging abdominal wall

A sagging abdominal wall can have various causes. The most common causes are
  • Frequent and severe weight fluctuations, severe and persistent weight loss
  • Genetically predisposed connective tissue weakness
  • Pregnancies

In most cases, the skin is stretched beyond its elastic limits and is therefore no longer able to fully regenerate. In such cases, it is no longer possible to bring about a regression through a healthy lifestyle and sport.

4 steps to a tummy tuck - abdominoplasty

Anesthesia for a tummy tuck

The abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia. Together with our anesthesiologist, we will discuss which form of anesthesia is best for you.

Method of abdominoplasty

Modern methods make it possible to adapt the operation individually to each patient in order to achieve optimal results. The skin and subcutaneous fatty tissue are detached from the abdominal wall via an incision, approximately at the level of the pubic hairline, which extends laterally to the pelvic bones. In most cases, it is also necessary to move the umbilicus.

If necessary, the abdominal wall is tightened with stitches and excess skin and fatty tissue are removed. The cut is made in such a way that it can be easily concealed by underwear or swimwear. A tummy tuck is often performed in combination with liposuction. You will be fitted with a special compression garment (girdle) in the operating theater.

Aftercare and recovery

For the first few days after the operation, I definitely recommend taking it easy physically. You will be allowed to stand up and walk a few steps for the first time on the day of your tummy tuck.

The drains placed during the operation are usually removed just one day after the operation. You will receive detailed information about post-operative care, as well as information about normal symptoms and signs of possible complications. The recovery time is approx. 14 days.

The result of a tummy tuck

The results of a tummy tuck are not immediately visible and require a little patience, as each person has an individual healing process. After about 4-6 months, you can enjoy the final result and continue to enjoy it for many years thereafter.
