Ear correction by Dr. Roland Resch
Since prominent ears are perceived as a flaw by both children and adolescents as well as adults, those affected usually suffer greatly from this circumstance. Teasing, reduced self-esteem and self-confidence, complexes and shame are the most common consequences.
The cruel teasing often begins as early as kindergarten age. Therefore, many parents opt for correction, often even before their child starts school. If parents refrain from ear correction for their child in early childhood, it is also possible to correct the ears for adolescents or adults.
Ear correction from the age of 5
Ear correction is possible from the age of 5, as this is when the ears are almost fully grown. After the operation, please allow your child or yourself 7-10 days of rest. Adults can usually return to work after one week. Children should stay away from kindergarten or school for around 10 days. Ideally, for children, school holidays are suitable, and for adults, vacation or Christmas holidays are opportune times for the operation.
When is ear correction an option?
If your child suffers from prominent ears (bat ears) and is at least five years old
You suffer from prominent ears as an adult.
If you have split, overly large earlobes or suffer from pixie earlobes
Split or overly larbe earlobes
Women in particular are affected by this and it can happen in the hustle and bustle of everyday life: You get stuck with an earring and the earlobe is torn in or through! Years of wearing heavy ear jewelry can also lead to unsightly changes in the earlobe. Dr. Roland Resch can surgically correct earlobes, whether they are split or very large.
Special suturing techniques can be used to reshape the earlobe and restore its natural shape. In order to achieve a cosmetically sophisticated result, the earlobe is closed with very fine, low-reaction sutures, which are removed after around a week. As a result, it is possible to re-pierce an earlobe after about three months. If necessary, the earlobe can also be made slightly smaller.

4 steps of ear correction
Consultation
Every procedure in our practice is made as comfortable as possible for our adult and pediatric patients. Especially with children, it is very important for us to create a warm and fear-free atmosphere. Each procedure is preceded by a detailed consultation with the parents or you as an adult. This is primarily aimed at clarifying the initial situation and discussing the entire procedure, any risks involved, and the post-operative period.
Anesthesia
The procedure of otoplasty is always performed under general anesthesia in children, from adolescence and in adults under local anesthesia; of course, also under general anesthesia upon request. Our experienced anesthesia team will guide you through the operation. The correction of split earlobes is usually performed under local anesthesia.
Method of ear correction
Through an incision behind the ear, the cartilage is reshaped using special incision techniques and stitched to bring the entire ear closer to the patient's head. The stitches are entirely behind the ear and scars are not visible from the outside.
Aftercare & recovery
Children: Your child will be taken to our recovery room immediately after the operation and you can be with your child again from that time. Shortly after the procedure your child will wake up from anesthesia and about an hour later you can return home. Adults: Immediately after the outpatient procedure under local anesthesia and a short recovery period, you can go home. After the operation it is necessary to wear a headband for a certain period, especially at night, to optimize the success of the operation. If necessary, a head bandage will be applied for several days, especially for children. If there is a tendency for impaired wound healing, we will also advise you on suitable scar care.
Ear correction - What you should know!
How do I prepare for ear corerction (Otopexy)?
Before ear correction surgery, we will discuss the following points together in order to positively influence the result in advance and minimize risks:
- Your general health condition or that of your child
- Any existing illnesses
- Avoiding aspirin or other anti-inflammatory drugs that affect blood clotting
- The procedure for high blood pressure or diabetes
- Acute or chronic illnesses that may potentially contraindicate surgery
- Your preparation for the time after the procedure
- The importance of avoiding alcohol and nicotine before surgery
- Adequate fluid intake before and after the procedure
- Please wash your hair before the procedure.
What are the risks of ear surgery (Otopexy)?
Patient safety is my top priority!
Otoplasty is a very frequently performed operation with a usually low risk. As with any procedure, however, there are residual risks, which can be significantly minimized by adhering to high safety standards. It is also important to know that asymmetries cannot be completely corrected. A certain degree of asymmetry is present in almost every person and is not considered pathological. Not all congenital ear deformities can be completely balanced and corrected.
Rarely occurring risks:
- Hematoma – usually disappears by itself; in very rare cases it has to be removed.
- Pain – this can be treated very simply by taking pain medication.
- Minimal postoperative bleeding
Very rare risks:
- Infection – in the vast majority of cases this can be treated very simply with an antibiotic. Very rare are severe cartilage infections that require inpatient treatment and may lead to cosmetic impairments.
- Wound healing disorder – some people have a tendency towards impaired wound healing, whereby the risk is significantly higher in smokers or diabetics.
- Hypersensitivity to touch, pressure or cold.
When are sports, sauna, sun and tanning bed possible again after an otoplasty?
Please refrain from intensive sport and sunbathing as well as sauna and solarium for three months.
How much does it cost to have ears corrected or to correct split earlobes?
Otoplasty: The price of an ear surgery includes all costs and is € 2,490 for both ears
Split earlobe: The price of a correction of split earlobe is € 1.290,-
Prices valid from 01.01.2024
What patients say about us
Very detailed consultation in which all my questions were answered AND explained very well by Dr. Resch. The operation was painless, I received a call from Dr. Resch on the same day in which he asked how I was feeling (great aftercare). The healing process went just as Dr. Resch had told me before the operation...... The whole team - receptionist, surgery nurse - is VERY nice and explains all the steps that need to be taken before and during the operation....
Great people are doing a perfect job. Many thanks for that
I had my breast done by Dr. Resch, it was before the summer and I am soooooo happy! He suggested the operation with implants and it was really the right decision. Size, shape - everything is great! Everything was explained well and in detail. I was a bit scared and nervous, but I had almost no pain. I could have gone straight back to work, which really surprised me. It healed quickly and I was in the bath and had a hot summer with my new twins! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
I have had liposuction on my hips and thighs. From the first consultation to the 2nd check-up appointment, I was well looked after by the whole team and Dr. Resch and the results are really impressive. I can really only advise everyone to seek help here if they have an aesthetic problem!!!
WOW! I had a thread lift done by Dr. Resch to liften my face and chin line. I am more than thrilled. My husband says: 10 years younger! The advice and clarification were excellent and no questions were left unanswered. Dr. Resch also explained to me exactly what is achievable and what is not. The entire team is very friendly and empathetic. I felt very comfortable. I was able to go home shortly after the treatment. There was hardly any pain. The check-up appointments afterwards, which are included in the price, are also carried out in a relaxed and attentive manner. For me the best beauty doctor! 5 stars!
Dr. Resch lifted my upper and lower eyelids in a single operation. The result is a dream. Dr. Resch gave me incredibly good advice and showed me before and after pictures. He answered all my questions and also asked me in great detail about my ideas in order to harmonize reality and my expectations. My expectations were even exceeded: It's now been 3 months and you can't see the scars at all. Everything is firmer and the bags under the eyes have disappeared. The staff are also extremely empathetic and courteous, and the practice is also very nice. All in all, this doctor can really be recommended! Thanks to Dr. Resch
At the end of last year, I decided to have surgery to remove my gynecomastia, which had bothered me since my youth. I came across Dr. Resch, who made a very professional and emphatic impression from day one. After the initial consultation, I decided to have surgery with Dr. Resch.
The entire procedure, from making appointments, pre-operative information, intra- and post-operative care to follow-up checks, was of the highest standard.
This is where the humanity of Dr. Resch and his team really shines through.
All questions were answered patiently and in detail, even outside the surgery's working hours.
Dr. Resch and the entire team can only be recommended!
Thank you!
As a specialist in plastic surgery and also surgery (this combination is rare to find) he is really highly recommended! He is very nice, competent and responds wonderfully to his patients' problems. What you quickly find very likeable is his down-to-earth attitude - i.e. he is not aloof like so many others in his industry. The support was excellent, his team is very friendly and the appointments are uncomplicated. I can only warmly recommend him and his team! Thanks to him I have a normal everyday life again without massive sweating! Thank you!
I have already had several procedures with Dr. Resch (eyelid lift, liposuction on the stomach and legs) and can only warmly recommend him - and his team! From the professional, empathetic and - in terms of the result - realistic consultation to the procedures in a reassuring, trusting environment, I felt that I was in good hands and very professionally looked after. I was also always very well looked after and advised during aftercare. Thanks to the whole team for the great all-round support!
I was interested in breast augmentation with autologous fat. Dr. Resch explained everything to me very precisely and also told me realistically what is possible. But I already knew from reading on the internet that only a certain amount of size increase was possible, which was completely ok for me. The operation wasn't bad at all, the girdle was a bit annoying. But hold on girls: bigger breasts, fat pads gone! Especially riding breeches and so over the waistband! It really paid off! Can only recommend Dr. Resch and his friendly team!
I had breast reduction surgery with Dr. Resch and it was a fantastic experience. Right from the beginning he lead me through the whole process of preparing for surgery, finally underwent surgery and all went well!!!! I am so happy with the results and finally feel so much lighter! My breasts were such a heavy load for so many years! Healing was also no problem and in the meantime the scars look fine! New breasts, new life! Thank you!
